Non Governmental Organisation under aegis of  Caleb Danladi Foundation on has continued to distribute food items to widows and orphans in Kaduna, to cushion the effects of  the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.


Nigeria News Agency reports that the food items distributed include rice, yam, garri, maize, noodles, spaghetti, and oil, among others.


Beneficiaries of the food items donated are located in Samban Gida, Ungwan Loko, Ungwan Kifi, and Afana villages in Jaba Local Government Area of  the state.
The founder of the NGO,  Capt. Caleb Danladi said the gesture was necessitated by the need to support the less privileged and those who relied on daily earnings for their source of livelihood during the period.


“We are distributing these food items to ensure that those who cannot afford daily meal as a result of the ongoing lockdown are taken care of.
“And we are particular about the widows and orphans in the villages because most of them are daily earners and it might be hard for them to make both ends meet during this lockdown,” he said.


According to Danladi, the distribution will extend to other parts of the region.


He said the NGO launched the exercise beginning with Jaba and Zangon Kataf local government areas.
He called on other well-meaning Nigerians, NGOs, and government agencies at all levels to support the less privileged in the society with basic amenities especially now given the exigencies of the moment.
The founder of the NGO further reiterated the commitment of the organisation toward improving access to quality education, eradicating poverty and reducing crime rates in the state.


According to him,  a computer centre at Sambam area of the state had been established by the foundation to help offer free training to interested residents, especially youths to enhance their knowledge on Information Communication Technology (ICT).


He added that the NGO was also training women in agro-business ventures and  sewing adding that trading had commenced with starter packs given at the end of the exercise.

He  urged more women to participate in the exercise after the Covid-19 pandemic was over.
“We want to encourage our widows to seek an alternative livelihoods by engaging in skills acquisition such as agriculture, sewing, trading that will provide them with a source of livelihood for themselves and their children in the future.


A recipient, representing widows of Samban Gida, Mrs Asabe Nyeh said the gesture would reduce the hardship on the widows caused by the lockdown, as well as provide food for  their families.


Similarly, the village Head of  Ungwan Kifi, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Aminu Shagbo, commended the efforts of the foundation for their usual and timely intervention to the villagers, particularly women, orphans and the youths.
